I recently preached a message entitled “The Whole Counsel of God.”
When the Apostle Paul was saying his farewell to the elders of the church in Ephesus, he made this statement: “I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27). He was able to say that he did not hold anything back, but spoke the whole of God’s truth.
One of the errors that can trip us up in our walk with God is focusing on parts to the exclusion of the whole. We need to be grounded in the whole counsel of God. It is the whole counsel of God, not parts, that is the foundation for the church and for the Christian life. It is the whole counsel of God that will protect us from deception. It is the whole counsel of God that will keep us from getting unbalanced.
As we become students of the Word–asking the Holy Spirit to illuminate the Bible to us– and as we make knowing Jesus our highest priority, we will become grounded in the whole counsel of God.
