Several months ago, I announced that I was stepping down from my staff position at Threshold Church to go full time with Jake Kail Ministries. This has been a big step of faith for me and my family, as we are now relying on the Lord to provide through donations from individuals, churches, and businesses. This new season officially started at the beginning of April, and we have been amazed by God’s faithfulness and the generous support of many. To all who have given or set up a recurring donation–THANK YOU!
A friend of mine who has a heart to help financially support ministries pointed out that the ultimate end of generous giving is thanksgiving and praise to God.
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:10-11)
I have certainly found this to be true. With each donation and monthly partnership, I am in awe of God’s love and goodness, and my heart overflows with thanksgiving to Him. He is faithful!
The Value of Financial Partnership
As I took this step of faith, I was struck by the fact that Jesus Himself had ‘financial partners’ who helped to fund His ministry and provide for His needs. The gospel of Luke describes various women who had been healed of sicknesses and delivered from evil spirits who traveled with Jesus and provided for Him from their substance (see Luke 8:1-3). The gospel of John also describes that Jesus had a ‘money box’ that was presumably for receiving offerings (see John 12:6, John 13:29). The fact is, it takes finances to run a ministry. And financial partnership allows a minister to focus full time on the work of ministry because financial needs are covered.
My wife and I have regularly sown into other ministries over the years. But through the process of transitioning into full time ministry with JKM, I have a whole new appreciation for the value and power of financial partnership. It brings thanksgiving and praise to God. It allows participation from the body of Christ to help support and send ministers. And it shows God’s faithfulness as we rely on Him in faith.
It is a blessing to be able to give, and it is humbling to be on the receiving end of financial support. In the end, the Lord is glorified through it all!
