God Has a Purpose in the Delay
July 24, 2024Three Signs of Demonic Influence in a Believer’s Life
August 14, 2024What is the long-term fruit of the ministry of deliverance? For many believers, it is a life-changing experience that propels them deeper in their walk with the Lord and service in God’s Kingdom. Below is a powerful testimony that I shared in the book Can A Christian Have a Demon? of a life that was transformed through receiving healing and deliverance!
A Life Transformed
In October of 2021, my wife and I went to minister at the Youth With a Mission (YWAM) base in Colorado Springs. On the first night, I preached from Isaiah 61 on the topic of healing broken hearts and setting captives free. Several students received deliverance that night, but one testimony sticks out.
As I was praying over the group of students, I began to call out specific spirits. A young lady named Lauren dropped to her knees and began to weep in the back of the room. She didn’t even know what was going on or why she was crying, but she came forward for ministry. As I prayed for her, I sensed the Holy Spirit leading me to pray specifically about the healing of her soul, just as I had preached about in Isaiah 61. Without knowing her past, I spoke of things that happened in her childhood and prayed for the Holy Spirit to minister to her heart and bring wholeness to any places in her soul that had become fractured through trauma. I commanded every unclean spirit that was influencing her life to come out in the name of Jesus.
The rest of the week was a powerful time of ministry. One young man who had struggled with intrusive suicidal thoughts and images for several years was delivered from a spirit of suicide. Another young lady was delivered from a spirit of fear. Others were set free from spirits of death and infirmity. But I didn’t realize the full extent of what the Lord had done in Lauren’s life until over a year later when I returned to minister to a new group of students.
When I arrived at the base that second time, the school leader mentioned how impactful the first time was for the students. He referred to Lauren’s testimony and said that it was the most radical transformation that he had ever seen in all his years of ministry. I was intrigued by this and wanted to hear more of Lauren’s backstory and what had happened that night. She was back at the school—this time not as a student but one of the staff members. She shared her story, and I was blown away by God’s love and power.
Lauren shared how she had experienced trauma in her childhood, a broken family, and a battle with mental health struggles. She had a little bit of church background and had received the Lord in childhood, but she had not been able to sustain a relationship with God. The depression and anxiety were so bad that her family sent her away to top dollar specialized hospitals for periods of time. But nothing would bring healing. She turned to relationships, drugs, and alcohol, trying to cope with her torment. Her life was in shambles, and at one point she attempted suicide.
On whim, Lauren made a last-minute decision to go to the YWAM base for a discipleship training school. She rededicated her life completely to God and began to grow in Him. Throughout the year, she would continually surrender herself to the Lord, but the mental health struggles continued, and she would find herself falling back to drugs. She finished the program and came back for the school of supernatural missions the next year, which is the school where I first taught at and prayed for her.
That night, as I prayed for the broken parts of her heart to be healed, she said that she literally felt pieces of her soul coming back together. After experiencing healing and deliverance that night, her life was completely transformed. The heaviness, anxiety, and depression were gone. The pull toward drugs was no longer there. She was free and at peace in a way that she never knew was possible.
Now Lauren is leading mission teams into the nations. No longer a captive, she is being used by God to preach the good news and set others free!
